Whaaaat?!

That's the Peeps new thing when he sees something awesome.  "WHAAAT??!" Pointing to whatever has piqued his excitement.  99% of the time it's a car, but a random extra serving of fruit can bring out the jazzed exclamation too.

WHAAAT??!!  That was my immediate response when I saw that you chose lucite for the curtain rod in my guest room.  Whoop!  Y'all rock...I hate to break it to you, but the samples I ordered for the walls are on backorder.  The moment I get them in my hot little hands, I will put it up to a vote!  Then we'll break to have the wallpaper installed and the curtains hung before moving on.

Thanks for being so awesome and fun.  And I LOVE your comments, so bring it on.  Not only can I take dissenting opinions, I dig them.

Aaaaand, scene.

Thrifting!  I get asked about it a lot.  Listen, I get it...many people just don't want used stuff.  They will never be converted.  I'm crazy about it. The most common theme among those who don't thrift is

"there is never anything good at my local stores."

Yet these are STILL at my Salvation Army.

I think many people just don't know what to look for.  I get that.  It does take awhile to find the value in other people's junk.  Or to envision it reformed.

When I hit a thrift, I start in the accessories.  My first go to is art.  It's usually terrible!  But one of my local stores sells smalls 3 for $1 (the one pic that uploaded with an error. Aargh).  Hello?  Rip out the crappy picture/drawing/painting and use the frame for your own stuff.  Better yet?  Paint it a shiny color.

Things that stand out in accessories...globes.  They are hard to find, but this beauty was there yesterday.

Silhouettes have recently made a huge comeback in decor. This little cutie would make a great addition to a gallery wall.

I spend a decent amount of money on baskets at places like HomeGoods and Target...but they can be picked up for a buck or two.

Is it weird I'm OBSESSED with the glassware?  Is that gross?  I love mixing and matching.

I probably have more candlesticks from thrifts than anything else, I particularly love brass and crystal ones.

My assortment of thrifted candlesticks on my Thanksgiving table.

I always pick up random white dishes and accessories...bud vases are always easy to come by.

A Red-and-White Christmas Table Setting: Eddie Ross is making quite a name for himself as a blogger. Here he sets a festive table that will work for Christmas — or Valentine's Day. If you're patient and diligent, you can always find vintage lamps with nice shapes.  With brass being all the rage again, now is a good time to pick some trendy beauties up for next to nothing.

i need me some big brass lamps with black sexy shades!

Office furniture is plentiful at thrift stores.  I know from experience that when a professional office closes its doors, they very often have everything hauled off as a donation and tax write-off rather than worry about selling it.

This coffee table has seen better days, but it's so pretty and cool and campaign-ish and leathery.  And it's Maitland Smith, which I hear is fancy.

Since I'm not a big natural wood girl (unless its a fabulous antique), I'm always on the lookout for furniture that might look amazing with a paint job. For whatever reason, consoles are pretty common. Randomly, not this day that I was there scouting for this blog piece.

End tables are a dime a dozen...I look for nice, simple lines.

like the idea of end tables as a coffee table

Especially drawn towards random vintage pieces with interesting detail.

Love the blue painted chest of drawers used as a bedside table

Super questionable, but maybe worth a second thought.

Pretty scalloped dining tables always draw my attention.

Hot pink dining room table? I don't see why not.

Chairs can get dicey, so many are worn within an inch of their lives.  For those that aren't, unless they're some antique score, I only pay attention if they have fabric that could be easily redone by me and my Mom.

To me, this is a rare find. Curvy old captains chairs with lovely on-trend fabric. Score! I couldn't tell you in a million years why that crazy head patch thing is there, but there is cane behind it and I would rip it off before it left the threshold of the store. And the grandma plastic, duh.

For some reason I feel like someone will think this is awesome.  So random.

Another tip.  This may seem counter intuitive, but sometimes you have to wait something out.  It may be a Palm Beach thing, but once in awhile my thrifts start feeling all fancy pants.  Like they think they're hot to trot antique venues.  And price amazing tables like this at $499.

And then three weeks later I see it again and it's been rightly dropped to a mere $129.

What are your favorite thrift finds?  What things are you typically drawn to when you're trolling a thrift or a flea?

"Where's a good place to eat?"
