This is Our New Friend in the Family Room

Remember this dull, subwoofered shot of the TV wall in my family room?  I really wasn't overly concerned with this space until I saw it in this picture.  Yowzas.  Then I knew it needed immediate attention.

If you are a regular reader (of course you are, these are good times here), you'll remember that I fell in love with this piece from Emily Henderson's show Secrets From a Stylist.  Her blog rocks by the way.

That sent me on an immediate mission for a midcentury console and I would accept nothing less, errr shorter.

Ahhhh, Decor Once More!!  One of my most favorite stores with gently used furniture and accessories from some of the finest estates in Palm Beach.  Did that sound like a plug?  It totally is, you have to visit this store if you haven't already.  Just please don't buy anything you think I might want.

Huge, long and very substantial.  A gorgeous midcentury cabinet that also has a touch of ornateness that I really crave.  When I mentioned that I would be lacquering this girl in a shiny white Dayle, the lovely and kind owner of Decor Once More, gave me a side eye that basically said "this is a very important piece, please do not pull one of your $6 can of spray paint jobs".  Point taken, so I brought in a professional for this one.

Hello gorgeous!

I'm so glad I didn't paint it myself....the woodwork was extremely intricate and had to be completely taken apart to preserve the gorgeous copper sheeting behind the doors.

I'm C-C-C-CRAZY about it. It definitely didn't end up with the super high gloss I'd intended, but I think an extra poly coat will do the trick.

This beautiful cabinet was made for this space.  It is only about 1 1/2 inches shorter than the wall, and the brightness of the white really makes the giant TV disappear into the wall when not in use.

Please do me a solid and pay no attention to my too short curtains...this is being remedied asap.

Bonus!  I didn't even notice the punch of apple green on the inside of the cabinets.  This was originally used as sideboard and I guess Dayle didn't see the silver shrimp fork and napkin ring that were left in the drawer (sucka!).  Sometimes you really score people, I'm just saying.

"Please don't put me up here, its dangerous" as I set him on the coffee table to make a quick diaper change.  What 2 year old talks like that?

  1. No way! That is a serious before and after. You nailed it with that piece. Is that copper behind the scroll work doors? I love it. The scale is amazing and who doesn't need all of that storage. Great job!
