Remember this? I know these pictures of my closet horrified you all to your very core...so let's see them again!!
BEFORE:
My side
His side
Yay, AFTER! I'm so excited to report that there is an after.
My side...Gray velvet 'slim' hangers for me (Walmart)
Aye, I wish I'd straightened my hangers. I really have no future as a photo stylist.
A lot of shoes for not really a shoe girl. I filled my shelves!
His side...Cherry wood hangers for him (also Walmart)
Poor guy, not so many shoes. Ties are his shoes. He has a million and he does not buy cheap ties. Mr. Fancy Pants.
The view as you enter...
Oh look, there's a lightbulb.
I'm CRAZY about the results! We feel like fancy rich people, I have to admit. Seriously, we walk in and marvel at how big it seems now. I like to stand at my side and walk over to his side and announce how many steps it takes me (6!).
Have I mentioned that this is not a DIY blog? Obviously we did not do this ourselves seeing as how we wouldn't know a screwdriver if you threw it at us. We saved our pennies and had a company custom design the space. It was kinda pricey (relatively speaking...I'm super cheap-o, you may recall), but these are the things I'm willing to spend a little more on since almost everything else in my house is junked or consigned.
I really had no idea how colorful my wardrobe is. You know how people organize their clothes according to color? Yeah, I couldn't really do that very much. Which brings me to the floor and how grateful I didn't do what I planned to do.
So this is DIY-ish~ There wasn't anything wrong with the existing carpet, but I decided if I was going to do it I would do it all the way. Originally I wanted something cool on the floor, a design of some sort. My plan was to find a really great vintage oriental rug and install it as carpet. Now that I see all the color in my clothes, it would have been waaaay too busy. Good thing I didn't find one I liked. I bought this chunky jute rug on sale at Pottery Barn and I'm completely in love with it. I adore natural fiber rugs and would put them everywhere, but this one is especially soft and awesome underfoot. The DIY part is that my Mom and I were totally going to do this ourselves and just cut the rug to fit the space....but since the handyman superstar was there to change out the lights, he did it for us. I really think it would have been easy as pie, but I'll never turn down help.
Which brings me to the chandeliers. I got these on the cheap from Overstock (they are a little more now) and they are super sparkly and pretty. Dadgumit, my review isn't up yet. If you are interested, ask me first. I have a lot to say.
I love all my jewelry space...I still need more. Maybe I'll hang a peg board on the left for more hanging room.
His sad little cufflink display. He needs a manry box.
Thanks for indulging me, I'm so happy with my closet. You know what though, you don't have to spend a ton of money on a closet if you are at all handy. Remember this closet from Made By Girl? Looks so similar and she bought it all at Ikea and painted it black. Looks amazing!

We were headed to the beach the other day and I told Baylor "I'm going to swim with you in the ocean, and the big pool and the Peepie pool (baby pool)!"
and he said...
"Probably you won't fit in the Peepie pool, you just put your feet in."

Lauren! How exciting!!! I know that you were troubled over your closed and now YOU have one of those closest you see in magazines. I'm totally going to steal your idea and get ALL new hangers...from Wild Walmart (that is what my boys call it)!!!
ReplyDeleteOMG! Looks Great & I can tell you're super excited as you should be. A few more than 6 steps and you might have been able to fit your bed in there. I can share in the way it feels to have a clean & organized closet, Just cleaned mine out yesterday. :) Happy Hanging!
ReplyDeleteLove love love it!!!!! Love the rug and everything about it! YEAH! I MUST COME OVER TOMORROW! What did Bret say?
ReplyDeleteGORGEOUS! I absolutely am obsessed with the final, especially with the chandelier. Heaven. Totally need to get those hangers for moi, who does organize by color. #truth. Still like me?
ReplyDeletePS: does the hubs spend a lot on ties or bow ties? hehe, just kidding. Adam told me about his convo with Fred.
Thanks girls!! I'm thrilled with the results.
ReplyDeleteAlyson- haaaa...no, I think it's awesome to organize by color! I just have so so many that it made it very difficult. Like every color of the rainbow and barely repeating. Except black, of course.
And yes, Brett wears a LOT of bowties.
I am cracking up! I was all prepared to comment on your closet until I got to the Peepie pool part! Too funny! OK, closet...love it! I hung chandeliers in my closet last summer (el cheapos from Ikea) and have been giddy ever since! Funny how a closet redo can make such a huge difference!
ReplyDeleteGlad I stopped by. It's been too long!
Happy summer!
Linsey
Love it. the dark wood, the rug, the rainbow of colors. I color coordinate...and barely have repeats as well. I also go light to dark!
ReplyDeleteOh la la! I love your new closet! What a huge improvement!!
