This is What This Blog is All About

I was giddy when I saw the April Traditional Home in my mailbox!  This dining room is so gorgeous...the zebra print on the ivory french chairs tucked into the dark, modern table.  I love the glossy dark blue walls and the light ikat rug.  The incredible gold mirror and the mercury glass hurricanes make me a little weak.  I'm not a pine cone centerpiece kind of girl, but that's okay!  Everything else is wonderful.  I knew when I saw it I wanted to write about it, but then I spent the weekend wracking my brain trying to imagine what other bloggers, interior design professionals would say about it.  Would they like it too?  Or is this old news?

Old news like this picture.  One of my FAVORITE dining rooms to ever grace an interior magazine...granted more than a year ago.  Actually, I don't even know when!  I just love it and will never stop thinking about it and admiring it.

Here's the truth about what this blog is, will be, and will not be:  I am not an interior designer.  I will never be at the forefront of the latest design trends and what's hot and what is tired and dated.  In fact, I've just become interested in decorating in the last two years!  There are friends of mine probably reading this blog right this minute thinking "I was in your house 3 years ago and you didn't even have so much as a picture on the wall.  Why again are you writing about interior design?"  Well, I'm not.  Not really.

Today I've decided that I will never spend another weekend worrying about whether someone will drop by my blog and think "SNOOZE.  Old news."  Not another minute!  I'm going to show pictures of things I find beautiful, images that I would love to recreate in my own home.  And I may just repeat the same ones over and over I love them so much!! (horrors! repeat?)  Like this one.

I am so grateful for the messages some of you have sent me saying that this blog has, in it's short life, inspired you to get going in your own homes.  There are personal friends of mine that read every day now and have never even heard of design blogs, so they haven't seen many of the images that other bloggers were discussing 2 years ago.  I might show them!

The lovely girls that write some of my FAVORITE design blogs have been so gracious to stop by mine and leave sweet comments, and they mean the absolute world to me.  I've admired their tastes and writing styles for so long it seems crazy that they would enjoy something that I've written.  And, God bless them, they won't see much new inspiration here.  But maybe they will like something that I've done, and maybe it will be refreshing to see what has inspired me.

So that's it.  No longer will I be insecure in my tastes and what I feel like discussing here.  I will not worry about what is trendy and what is so yesterday.  There is a place for that (and I adore so many bloggers who can tear apart some room they've seen...but they can do that because they're professionals!) and it is not on my amateur blog.  Here I will show what I love, what I'm doing in my home and what others are doing in theirs.  Real people!  I have some local designers and artists lined up to talk about what they love and what inspires them.  And it will be inspiring to me, and hopefully to some of you.

Thank you so much for stopping by, I'm having a wonderful time.

Edited to Add: These are my very own insecurities I'm chronicling for you...really just a personal pep talk. There was nothing to instigate it but my own personal thoughts going into what I post. See that list over to the left there?  Those are blogs that I read every day and I wouldn't change ONE TINY THING about them.  They know their stuff and I admire them all so much!

Baylor Says...

There is no better feeling in the world than when my 2 year old wraps his little arms around my legs, squeezes me as tightly as he can, and says "I love you so much Mom Mom!"  Everyone told me this day would come, how amazing it would feel, but you just can't know fully what they mean until it actually happens.  The day is here and it is GLORIOUS!  I wouldn't trade this for anything, not any little or big thing in the universe.

  1. Gracious...what happened to trigger this one? I thought blogs were about the blogger, not what the reader what to hear. I agree with you, it doesn't matter what is in or not...it is about what is YOU. I feel like a home should express the owners not the latest design magazine.

Inspiration idea are great...but making it your own is what makes it special. That is why I really like your blog. I love how excited you get and MAKE THINGS YOUR OWN! I'm ready to see Baylor's room.

As I told you before...just blog to me! ;) BTW, I got this same magazine on Saturday and I was just as excited...and it isn't even my style. I just like beautiful things.

  2. Haha, oh dear, was I too melodramatic?! While I was agonizing over what to post today, I figured I'd just write about how much I agonize over what to post! I like bloggers who wear their hearts on their sleeves, so I just gave some more insight into what I hope to be accomplishing here.

You're right! I am getting better at making things my own, so I'm glad that is coming through.

    XOXOXO
