This is so embarrassing to share that I almost didn't but, in the end, SO WHAT. We did absolutely no prep for our day in Dublin, so when we hopped off the ferry with our pounds and waving our Union Jacks (not really), we were in for a surprise. Guess who lives in Euroland (as the bus driver put it)? Dubliners.
Janie and Mom using the downtime on the boat to prep for the next day.
Of course we had pints on the ferry, and when I went to order them, the lovely lady serving them asked if I'd like a splash of lemonade on top. I almost said "When in Rome!" Wow. I agreed to try this interesting concoction and then she just stuck them under the Sprite on the fountain machine. Pretty tasty.
IRELAND, BABY!
When we got off the ferry we were starving, and as luck would have it, the first pub we spotted happened to serve us the best meal of our trip so far. YUMMMMMERS. Heavily peppered beef/roast, potatoes (that were called something else...I call them little bites of carbolicious heaven), spicy cabbage, parsnips and carrots, and some more potatoes of the mashed variety. Ooooh, we were in such heaven.
Yes, we did take a double decker tour bus around the city, how did you know??!
Listen, it would have been just as touristy to stop every 5 feet with my big honkin camera and our map on the ground so we could "be in the map" (I just made that up completely), and the guided tour came with jokes!
"I wasn't supposed to be working today, but the other driver came down with the sheep flu. Do you know what that is? It's like the swine flu but not quite as baaaaaaad."
"This one's not very PC for you Americans on the bus....we consider a gay Irishman one who prefers women over beer" (Not exactly what he said)
"Over there to your left is the floozy in the jacuzzi, otherwise known as the who-er in the sewer."
All the painted doors made me happy.
I'm scared.
A rare French Chateau in the heart of Dublin.
For my brother Ryan...
Their President's home, modeled after the White House which was designed by an Irishman. Who knew?
For my husband the Solicitor.
Totally should've bought this hat.
Must finish out your time in Dublin proper-like then, right?
The sweetest little brothers on the bus back to the ferry.
We were so exhausted.
Looks and sounds like a great time! Can you sneak some real Guinness back for me?
ReplyDeleteWOW Lauren! I am loving the pictures...very impressed. Actually I'm so impressed about y'alls energy. I am exhausted just looking at pics. You look fabulous...btw :)
