I'm going to get straight to the point here...I want velvet pillows. I love the idea of switching out your summer pillows for some deep, velvety, snuggly winter pillows. There is only one problem.
I live in Tropical South Florida where it is still 90 degrees. And although people here will tell you "It gets cold!!!" it does not. They just whip out their ski jackets and fur stoles when it dips into the 60's (that was shorts weather back in Arkansas....I distinctly remember 68=shorts allowed) but it is warm beach weather year round. So can I have velvet pillows? I decided to give them a try on the cheap.
Here's is the only before I could find. Uggh, I write a blog, I should really be more organized. I've had other pillows on my couch since this pic....white and gray linen. At least you can see the old green pom pom pillows in the blue giraffe chairs.
The beloved black and white spider web chairs have moved to the husband's office. I have done zero 'styling' or rearranging in this picture. I didn't even move our air filter for goodness sake. We've had a sick baby and no sleep for 3 days so I just couldn't be bothered....I know I need some styling help anyway. I keep taking things away for other places in our home and then not doing anything with the remains.
That picture is like the quintessential Who's Who of where I shop. Chrome chair- True Treasures, Tiger pillow- Sustained Style for the Home, End table- Estate auction. Gray Velvet pillows- Decor Once More. Did I ever talk about that gorgeous coconut bowl? I won it in a raffle at a Sustained Style shindig. It's very cool.
I'd been scouring Etsy for gray velvet pillows when I found these. If we can all agree that I'm allowed to have velvet pillows in SoFla, I will live a little, but I thought gray would be a great jumping off point. I mixed them up with some purplish gray cable knit pillows that I bought ages ago at Z Gallerie. Back when I thought we might be having a purple bedroom (Ha! Youth.).
I like the velvet! Maybe I'm just flexible like that. Will people walk in my house and wonder where I think I live? Probably shouldn't care.
What other color velvet could I bring in? What do you think about that one little white and gray one that I left in the mix? 86?
Something else I'd like to talk about here. I might need to bring in some dark wood to 'ground' the room a little more. Everything here is light or painted wood or metal. I love mixed metals in a room, but the addition of the chrome chair has brought it to my attention that it may be a little much. This is not the forever home of that chair, but still.
Perhaps some dark wood end tables.
One last thing to address. I'm kind of over the Ikea sofa. Yes, I know that it is super popular and affordable and practical amongst the young married 20 somethings. I'm 35 and married almost 13 years. Moving on.....except I'm not ready to. Eeek! It's so practical and affordable! But the skirt, she's a making me crazy.
Enter the Bemz. You know of the Bemz, right? Custom slipcovers made from gorgeous, pre-washed Belgium linen all drapey and romantic (and long) for Ikea furniture. Brilliant.

The Bemz is pricey (more than the couch), but MUCH less than I would eventually like to splurge on my forever living room sofa. It would grant at least a couple years long stay of execution to the Ikea.
Let's hear your input...good, bad or indifferent. I especially need some of you SoFla lurkers (I see you) to pipe up here. Would you have velvet pillows? Is that weird?
Do I use too many ellipses and question marks?
I am beyond thankful that Baylor is feeling much better and was just having yet another episode of his breathing issues. The doctor thought RSV or pneumonia, we were very close to being in the hospital yet again, so I know that we are fortunate that he has rounded the bend.
But oh my how I want to THROW HIS NEBULIZER IN THE OCEAN.
