Responsible Pinning...and You!

People are rill upset about Pinterest etiquette.  The DIY and crafty crowd certainly have it pretty bad.  Surely Photographers have it the worst, right?  But then haven't they always?  Very few people look at a picture of a room and think "Wow!!!  Who took this?"  No.  And decorators' egos are suffering too.

But I'm suffering!  I can't find anything I'm looking for and I'm missing out on some good stuff.  I guess I just don't know how to search.

Search for "love this" and you get all of Pinterest this...

I love it too!  I heart those yellow corbels so much it hearts. ("Heart this" is a whole other ridiculous search.  Cute to say, not cute as a pin description. Come on folks.)  But how would I EVER have found that picture?

Same search...

If I were trying to find a hipster mustache for my refrigerator I would be plum out of luck unless I had the smarts (dumbs?) to search for "love this".

Yes, He will BRB!  And He is my Homeboy...but darned if I'd ever find a tshirt proclaiming it so on Pinterest.  "Love this".  It's not working people.

So vow with me right here and now, to end this confusion.  And lo, but I'm guilty as well.  I'm the queen of trying to be hilarious and crack myself up with a non-sequitor ish comment.  And during the dawn of Pinterest, I really only viewed it as my own personal playland with no thought given to my affect on others.

Like with this pin and my comment:

"Right?!?"  Right.  Is that going to find you a nifty door-front no soliciting sign idea?

SOOO.  For the sake of those of us who want to strangle everyone on the planet, vow right now to leave better descriptions on your pins.  I'll put myself up as a good example worth following:

Pinned from original source.  Described as "Blue sofa pink chair grandma chic!" /pats self on back

I won't drone on and on about the true ethics of pinning....making sure you pin from original sources, not labeling something as DIY if you didn't D it your ownself, etc.  I'm guilty and trying to rehab my pinning mistakes.

But I will demand that you help me find what the heck I'm looking for.  Because I need to find more Blue Sofas darn it!

Are you a responsible pinner?  I'm really working on it.

On and one more thing.  No more blog posts that say "All photos via Pinterest", because it's not helpful.  Shame on me.

Leave your other Pinterest annoyances in the comments.

Me: "You'll always be my baby, even when you're big and grownup."

Him: "When I'm big I will work at an office.  Downtown.  And I will leave my office and go get smoothies."

His Dad works above a health food restaurant.  That was his takeaway.
