The best part about visiting the American Red Cross Designer Showhouse (Sponsored by Traditional Home Magazine) this year was that I dragged along my friend Didi who is an ACTUAL interior designer. You know, unlike me who posts pretty pictures and shopping trips and then bosses everybody around about how they should decorate. It was terrific listening to her point of view, and I'll probably just pretend for blogging purposes that it was my informed opinion all along. Love you Didi!!
The second best part was knowing I can come in here and say any old thing I think and that's that. Last year, I had just started blogging and was trying too hard to say what I thought someone that writes a blog about interior design should be saying.
HAAA! Those days are long gone, amirite?
Enough already, here's the house.

(If I don't note a photo credit, then I took the pictures. But you knew that, right?)
I am gathering that the entry mural was already there and was restored by Maria Ranieri, and the foyer was furnished by Quigley-Maguire Collections. I thought it was wallpaper...really stunning.

The star pendant was pretty awesome. No this isn't heaven, this is 10am with the rising sun and other people behind me trying to quickly get inside.
Let's get right into one of my favorite rooms in the house...the living room was designed by William R. Eubanks and D. Mitchell Brown of William R. Eubanks Interior Design, Inc.

I love the fancy but world-traveler feel of this room. Very modern and tailored, but with so many unique pieces that give it a personal vibe (which is super difficult in a design house, I'm guessing).
LOVE the art. And there were at least three of these nailhead studded African screens in the room.

Beautiful sectional and an antique barometer on the wall. Greige was the color of the day.

There were two of these elegant and sculptural gold chandeliers...
I'm pretty sure this modern bench was covered in cowhide, for a touch of awesome.
Wall to wall sisal which just gets me every time. The mix of textures, metals and woods is one of my favorite ways to create a room that is, what I always like to call comfortable fancy.
Y'ALL that was only one room, you're going to have to read faster.
The dining room was DEFINITELY my favorite room in the house...I could be biased because not only was the designer, Joseph Pubillones, there and super friendly, his parents were there and they were darling. They described every last detail in the room for us and were certainly their son's biggest fans. The library he designed last year was my favorite of that showhouse, so I came with high expectations of him and he didn't disappoint.
A little tangerine tango and ode to the year of the dragon...

Catch the furry chair in the background? Look at this amazing table...check out the feet.
Yes, it is an original piece by Pedro Friedeberg, he of the famous hand chair. Every piece in Pubillones' dining room held meaning, or was purposeful. His attention to detail is phenomenal.
As much as I love a helter-skelter, do what you love aesthetic in my own home, I want to see a designer who works with intention.
I wish you could tell that these lampshades were made from black string. So cool.

The sunroom was designed by another of my favorite local designers, Jennifer Garrigues.

I'm not tired of the Moroccan influence in design yet, are you? She put some amazing pieces in this room.
Look at this incredible inlaid chest on the other side of the room. Do you like the little Louis ghost chair? Fabulous layered rugs.
Lovely vignette on top...check out the massive orange beads around the bust.
The long sofa was actually two little settees stuck together.
Gorgeous little ottoman.
The highlight of the den was the modern painting by local artist Clemente. The room was designed by Joseph Cortes and Kevin Marnell of HomeLife Interiors.

Really love the graphic Stark carpet and the metallic grasscloth on the walls. Almost every inch of this house was covered in grasscloth, it was extremely unfair seeing as how I can't afford one room. Boo.
Let's peek outside before we leave. Who wants to go swimming here all day? Me too.
What do you think? Which was your favorite part? I'll bring the upstairs tomorrow...some pretty flashy boudoirs in this pad.
Last night as I was getting him dressed for bed, he looked intently in my eyes, kissed me on the forehead, and said "I love everything you do."
My heart.
