I bought this book because it's darling. You're going to buy it because it's AWESOME. Truth: I bought it for my sister...a little housewarming, I love you gift because she's way into learning to decorate and is about to close on her forever home. But I read half of it before she even laid a pinky finger on it.
If you've been obsessing over your home longer than a few years I bet you know the name Deborah Needleman...she of the now defunct but much hoarded and adored Domino Magazine. Yeah, it's good like Domino was good.
When I first opened the book, I felt a little let down that it was all watercolor and no photographs. What first shocked and disappointed quickly awed and inspired. The illustrations are FABULOUS in a way that photographs could never be. The amazing Virginia Johnson took 'famous rooms' that many of us have seen before and turned them into absolute jewels. There are inspirations from Kate Spade, Miles Redd, and many more.
In this interview on Decor8, Needleman describes her desire to start Domino to help herself and others learn how to give their homes that cool, effortless style that she craved. HELLO, twinsies! That's exactly why I started this blog. I figure, if I'm going to spend every spare second making my house my love child, I might as well share with everyone else as I go along. Y'all have a million 'decorator blogs' you could read by people who already know what they're doing. I like to think you're here for the ride, not the destination.
What I thought was just a fun little coffee table book is an absolute How-To on how to achieve a fabulous home that absolutely sings with personality.
She breaks it down into 80 (yes EIGHTY) essentials to creating a stylish home that tells the story of YOU.
Her fun descriptions of things like "jollifiers" and "cozifications" really speak to your decorating urges and not only inspire you with new ideas, but encourage you to trust your instincts.
It's really really awesome. You must grab a copy right here. Since Janie monitored my packing, I'll be snagging a copy myself.
DO IT.
"It's SNOWING!!!" What a wonderful thing to hear your 3 year old shriek at 6:30 in the morning. Seriously. The best part of our little trip to Virginia.
