This Is Where I Sleep

Is everyone ready to talk about that hideous, blurry bedroom right there for the next 2 months-ish? GREAT! Let's get started, here's the other side:

I know. Who lives like that? Well, we do...and it didn't seem that big of a deal until I took pictures. Isn't that funny how much more you notice in pictures than in real life? Crazy. Anyways, I feel like showing you the awful truth (Ed. note: Lie. She does not make her bed.). There is laundry on the dresser, my new duvet cover is haphazardly bundled on top of the armoire, heck there is even a tupperware soup bowl on the bed. Who eats soup on the bed? Me, clearly. I'm not even going to show you pictures of my beautiful living room, family room, baby nursery, office or entryway to try to make myself look better...plus my afters will look so much more awesome by comparison. :-)

SOOO, let's get to the story of the paint swatches and random curtain panel on the wall(s). I've decorated much of my house and really not asked my husband what he liked or wanted much at all. A few months ago (please keep in mind that I've had a plan in place for our bedroom for a very long time) he OUT OF THE BLUE comes to me and says he would really like to pick the wall color in our bedroom and his choice is purple. I'm sorry, whaaaa? Yowzers. Long story (Ed. note: whining) short, I've embraced this choice and am doing my best to make a color scheme that is soooo not me, work. I've purchased a bed:
A chandelier:

And I have these bedside tables and this rug (in cream) on serious standby-to-purchase. By the way, the carpet looks dark brown and splotchy stained in those terrible camera phone pics, but it isn't. It's a very light taupe...but it is coming up soon and dark hardwood going down.

I have been really stuck on what to do for drapes. I know for sure I want a super fancy look like this:

But what color?? The purple sample panel was just not going to work. Cream is most likely what I would choose, but our new cream bed with our white duvet will be directly in front of the window...I just don't know about this. So I reached out to one of my favorite bloggers (and fabulous artist!), Nicole of Sketch42. She has done several posts identifying what she calls Good Purple and Bad Purple. She is the BEST! She responded almost immediately, threw all of my clumsy pictures together for me as an impromptu mood board and gave me the key piece of information I needed~ a picture of Audrina Patridge's bedroom:

SHUDDER. This is not going to work for me. Absolutely, NO. How can something look so completely different in my mind and look like this in real life? Thank the good Lord above, when my husband saw my face, he retracted his demand for purple walls.

What in the world....back to square one. Nicole has some wonderful ideas that I will share tomorrow after I wrap my brain around this change of direction.

  1. You have good pieces pulled together. Really love the rug and the side tables (where did you get them if you don't mind sharing). I have trouble with purple myself but am slowly coming around do lavendar.

  2. Hi Susie, thank you SO much for visiting my new blog! You know how much I love yours, so I really appreciate it. I'm going to be posting pics of my Trina Turk pillows soon and can't wait to share your blog with the handful of people that read here. :-)

The rug is from Ballard (15% off rugs right now!) and the side tables are Dransfield and Ross. http://www.dransfieldandross.biz/productinfo.asp?product_id=8388
