This is What I Did Yesterday

I'll be perfectly honest.  I am a junk store junkie.  Any given Saturday you will find me trolling through the local thrift stores, antique row, and if I manage to get out of the house early enough, garage sales!  The feeling of pride that I get when I score a treasure cannot be beat.  Recently I picked up some crystal candlesticks for $20 apiece and later found them selling on ebay for $200!!

Something doesn't have to be worth anything to end up being a treasure in my home, though.  This is a blah little number, right?  Not very special, but a great height and shape for my family room end table (and closed doors to hold a bunch of junk inside!).

For just a flicker of a moment, this reminded me a little bit of that big old TV my Grandpa had.  Remember those?  TVs used to be pieces of furniture.  And then when they broke, another smaller TV was set directly on top of it.  Anyway, these are all the things I used for this rehab.  3 cans of spray paint (one small for the hardware), babywipes, screwdrivers, and a little slip of sandpaper.

Let me stress here that I am a new painter.  I'm getting my feet wet as I try to move on to bigger pieces. If you want to see the work of some people who REALLY know how to paint, you have to check out Life in the Fun Lane, and my friend Christy Jo at The Strawberry Patch.  These are the pros!

I actually took the time to take this one apart.  Doors off, hardware off, hinges off, the whole shebang. Baby wipes are my best friend (in life, but especially in projects).  It took about 10 wipes to clean this dirty thing up.  Gross, dust on top of dirt on top of funk.  Then I like to rough it up just a little bit with some sandpaper.  Break out the wipes a second time to round up all the loose dust.

This piece only took 2 cans of paint and it dried lightning fast!  Seriously, I knocked this out in 2 hours.

I LOVE the periwinkle blue color and the matte gold hardware.  It really is matte, but the sun is shining off of it so now I think it is beautiful shiny as well.  Let's see how it looks inside...

It's not perfect, but I think it's perfectly charming.  Oh, and the best part of this project?

And the spray paint only cost $5 with a 50% off coupon from Michaels.  I'll keep it.

One more thing...have you all heard about this new gel nail polish?  Changed. my. life.  Will you just look at this please?

Those are all my real nails, 11 days after polishing.  ELLEVAN. (Okay, that's an inside joke that I couldn't not throw in there)  I wash dishes every day, I do all the mom and house stuff and I painted a chest!  Not one chip.  Life changing.

Baylor Says...

Baylor and I have a "hot date" on Wednesdays while Daddy works a little late. This particular place we usually go to eat dinner has a kids night with a lady who does magic tricks and twists balloons into anything the kids request.  Baylor asked for a Spiderman last night, and then spent the entire meal singing "Momma called the doctor and the doctor said, no more Spidermans jumping on the bed!"

  1. Love the blue and gold. What a great way to spend Wednesday. My neighborhood has been teeming with garage sales lately...as an fyi. I am kicking myself...kicking! for not getting that enormous silver tray for 5 dollars.

  2. Oh I have to come by your neighborhood!! Beth I do that all the time. I'm still remorseful over the huuuuge Swedish Landscapes coffee table book I passed over because the guy wanted 2 dollars for it instead of 1 and my pride wouldn't let me buckle. What is wrong with me?
