Milo Baughman
I've certainly never thought of my personal style as 'modern'. But what does that even mean anymore? And if it so often refers to mid-century modern....how is that modern, it was like 100 years ago. Okay 50ish, that was really funny in my head. I forget y'all don't know me.
From Wikipedia, that great bastion of knowledge:
Modern furniture refers to furniture produced from the late 19th century through the present that is influenced by modernism. It was a tremendous departure from all furniture design that had gone before it. Dark or gilded carved wood and richly patterned fabrics gave way to the glittering simplicity and geometry of polished metal. The forms of furniture evolved from visually heavy to visually light.
Oh. Well then.
All this to talk about my Milo Baughman wannabe chair.
I LOVE it. Especially since I scored it for $25. While I get giddy thinking about alternative upholstery ideas, spending upwards of $300 to redo it isn't an option right now.
I love me some ornate, gilded gold, overstuffed, over fabric'd gorgeous traditional/transitional rooms.
But in the last few years, I've been super want to throw some modern, chromey, clean-lined goodness into every traditional space in my house.
So my chair is like THE most modern thing I own, by conventional standards. But I think 'modern' has new meaning.
I really believe that the mixing of styles is the true definition of modern these days. Or is that just trendy?
What about you? How do you bring a modern feel to your home?

He has a big ol head, like his mama. (Sidebar: My husband's favorite party joke ~ "Would you rather have a MILLION DOLLARS....or Lauren's head filled with nickels?")
His shirts are often a tight squeeze to get over that thing. So when I pulled his shirt off this morning he grabbed his ears and yelped.
Me: "Oh I'm so sorry I hurt you buddy."
Him: "No it was my shirt! My shirt is sorry!"
