So many interior design-centric blogs that I love regularly feature well known designers. Most of you are familiar with names like Phoebe Howard, Miles Redd, Kelly Wearstler and Jonathan Adler. Since beginning my blog (almost 2 months ago...wow!), I've decided that I am very interested in showing off designers local to the Palm Beach area that many of you may not know.
You may recall that I recently attended my very first Designer Showhouse! It was very exciting for a newbie to Interior Design, and I was so in awe and inspired by the amazing spaces this particular group of designers put together.
One of my favorite spaces was the Family Room...most likely because it bears a lot of resemblance to my own (mainly the navy and white curtains). I love that it is beachy and casual, yet refined and elegant.
When I reached out to the designer, Lisa Erdmann of Lisa Erdmann & Associates, she graciously shared more of her work and some interesting facets of her design style, process and background. Enjoy!
Lisa Erdmann continues to hold court at the forefront of South Florida design, and has for over a decade. Lisa attributes her successful career to her belief in design excellence coupled with a determination to provide her clients with a stress-free, enjoyable and stimulating experience.
Working closely with clients to ascertain their vision, requirements and dreams, Lisa’s process combines her traditional design sensibilities with their needs. Often finding inspiration in the projects and families themselves, Lisa has even found a muse in two Burmese Mountain dogs, one of whom was a puppy as construction began and a spunky “tween” upon installation.
"The most rewarding part of each project is the installation,” says Lisa. “It is the culmination of the client’s dream and my vision and hard work.”
Originally from Vermont, while living and working in the design industry in New York City, Lisa attended Parson and FIT design schools. She now lives and works in Palm Beach, Florida.
Lisa's work has been featured in many publications, including Florida Design Magazine, Veranda, Southern Accents, Palm Beach Cottages and Gardens, Florida Design’s “Palm Beach,” Better Homes and Gardens, Tropical Homes, Grandeur, The Palm Beach Post, The Palm Beach Daily News, and others including two hardcover books.
What Inspires Lisa...
Lisa is inspired by her clients because, after all, she’s designing for them and creating a space for them to enjoy. She always asks them to pull pictures from magazines and web sites that demonstrate things they like (or don’t like) so she can really understand the client’s taste. She designs with their lifestyle in mind, and loves to incorporate the important pieces they already own; antiques and family heirlooms and mementos from travels are showcased in the final design.
She is also inspired by beautiful textiles that have a great hand, be they simple or patterned or colorful.
New Trends...
Fresh, clear colors in rooms as opposed to colors that are more “muddy”. They can be used as a main wall color (wallpaper or paint) or drapery colors. Fresh colors can also be used as an accent in a room.
Trends that are Fading...
Feng Shui was a big buzz word in years past, but the focus on it is diminishing. Interior Designers are trained to take many important aspects of a room into account including space planning and flow, view, focal points and the clients’ personal lifestyle. These things have always been an important part of design and will continue to be, but the focus on feng shui itself seems to be less of a trend these days.
Other Designers Lisa admires...
Victoria Hagen, Celerie Kemble, Alexa Hampton
In addition to owning and operating a successful interior design firm, Lisa is devoted to helping those less fortunate. She is executive vice president of the board of directors for The Center for Family Services and an active board member of the Nicklaus Children’s Healthcare Foundation. Committed to helping families grow in a safe and healthy way, these foundations provide childhood development programming, counseling, healthcare for trauma and illness, and safe house services.
