This is a Black and White Issue

My laptop hit the fritz yesterday, so I may be short and sweet for awhile....grrrrrr.  I have a desktop, but who can sit in an office for an hour with a 2 year old running hither and yon?

I still haven't gotten into the pillow controversy that has been happening in my living room, but the gist of it is that I can't seem to decide on what color(s) I would like to incorporate as an accent to the generally neutral/black and white space.  As you can see, the walls are gray with serious blue overtures.  Also, my FABULOUS chairs that I am completely married to are upholstered in a gorgeous blue and cream, so we know blue is going to be major.

In the beginning I planned to also incorporate different shades of blue in the accessories...teals and turquoises.  I like the look of mixing different shades of one color, but then I've thrown quite a bit of green into the room as well and it's just started feeling a bit off.  These pictures that I showed you last week are with all the pillows removed (except two greens in the chairs) and the only other colors remaining in the accessories and the teal peacock throw on the sofa.  I think I'm going to strip it down even further and concentrate on only bringing in the blue of the chairs through accessories.  I'm going to go more neutral with pillows (grays, whites, creams).  What do you think about only 1 color accent in an otherwise black and white room?  I'm not sure I can commit!

Am I the only one who thinks this room is screaming for a white cowhide rug?  My husband (the deer hunter?!!) has given me a big fat EWW, NO.  He has no opinion on anything decorating related ever,  but on this he has an opinion?

Here are some black and white spaces that are able to commit to one accent color...for the most part.  See, it's hard!

Could you commit to pops of only one color in a room?

Baylor loves him some Altoids (weird, right?).  He calls them his "spicy mints".  Any time we arrive at a destination, he asks for one.  He gets one and I get two.  For months now he announces "I have one mint and you have two mints."  Yesterday he told me "when I'm a big boy, I have two mints and you only have one mint."  Alrighty then.

  1. Your room is so pretty. And I totally heart your black mirror! I also really like your green pillows (they look kinda chartreuse...which is my fav color!). I think the blues and greens you got going on look good. Or just blues. I'm not much help! LOL.

  2. Design on a dime idea - move the green pillows to the white couch and see how they look...or/and....try your white patterned throw pillows from the family room chair on the white couch. Last thought - cow hide pillows!!??

  3. Jenny, definitely helps! Yes, they are chartreuse-ish.

Beth, I've been planning just such a post! I've rearranged the pillows a million times and just need to bring my camera along next time. I don't have any other plans tonight sooooo....

And lets definitely make a date for Circa Who! Circa Me & You.

  4. WOW, this is a post I can totally relate to! I'm in a constant state of black/white. And over the past 7 years it has been black/white/red...yuck! My table linens are most often black/white. My zebra chair has been my idol focal point...and probably always will be. The picture with the lonely zebra pillow is so AWESOME!!! I am going to use that one!!

AS FOR YOU :) ....what about doing a sheep skin rug (my friend has one and it is huge and so "sexy?" :), or a faux cow hide rug. When I first saw it, I thought orange would go great...you live in a place where you could totally pull it off. But then you have that coral rug in your family room. Just thought the black/white/blue room would do great with a bright color. I know you LOVE yellow so that would be a room with a Lauren touch!
