Men at Work

I thought it was a slow and expensive process getting things done in my house that I love and adore....do you know how hard it is to spend money on and try to finish my husband's office that I don't even care about?  Just kidding, I care-ish.  In all seriousness, that is probably why it is taking so long.  It has to be "law office appropriate" but this is our stuff.  I'm not buying any ugly stuff that I don't love if it's going to belong to me in the end.

And do you know how expensive filing cabinets are?  Good earth, that threw me for a loop.  The pretty wood ones all got the thumbs down by reviewers or husband so I reluctantly spent our life savings on the steel.  Boo, that was a really nice new sofa I might've had.

He got the antique federal mirror.  His bookcase is a crazy mess, so you're getting this tight shot until it's somewhat organized .

How beautiful is this brass valet stand I picked up at an estate auction last week?  He LOVES it.  Now he doesn't have to leave his suit jacket in the car (??? Does anyone understand this?).

I still can't get over his view.  Lucky dog.  To get your bearings- that is the intracoastal waterway then Palm Beach, and then you can barely make out the ocean beyond that.

The entry console is looking good, I think the bright orange paisley stools look awesome tucked in there and give the reception area some much needed punch.  But it's not exactly like I can 'style' the table.  Books and candles and trinkets won't really work.  I'm sure it will hold a few golf magazines eventually.  So nothing has been done here, and that lamp is fake in the sense that there is no actual electricity on that wall.

Brett's client sent him a big orchid that looked pretty nice, but it died.  I need to hang the mirror and move the random silver vase that was brought in to help the bookshelf but landed here instead.

I love the chairs we finally chose!  A pretty fabric would have looked great, but leather is much more sensible with stranger hineys coming in all day.  So instead I splurged on the Chiang Mai Dragon pillows.

Tiny little rug you taunt me.  It's because of the dreaded column.  I'll show you the rest of the reception area probably next week when one more very special thing comes back from the upholsterer.  Yay!!!  Also, I need a mirror for above those chairs....help me out here.  I really like this one from Ballard:

Victoria Mirror

But it would need to hang horizontally and one reviewer said its extremely heavy and not spaced correctly for studs.  And is it too girly?  It needs to be not metal (because of the brass trunk) and not squared off (because of the chairs and brass trunk).  Any suggestions?

Okay, once the reception area is finished the next room to tackle is the conference room.  We did get new chairs...you'll remember my husband put our old dining room chairs in there.

I'm looking for some cool art in here and a long thin console for the window wall for starters.  What do you think?

I was getting mad about something going on in our house (that I will totally share soon) and inappropriately sharing with Baylor while we were driving.

"Don't get upset about stuff, be happy about stuff like cars, and airplanes and stores and Best Buy and gas stations!"

Wise words.
