A Tiny Little Glimpse at My New Rug

First things first...Nancy is a genius.  Sweet Nancy left a comment about my camera woes yesterday, suggesting that best case scenario, maybe there was just a little smudge on my lens.  The news isn't as good as that, there is actually a teeny scratch/chip...but considering I'm a doom and gloom reactor and assumed the camera was as good as trash, the fact that it is just the lens is somewhat of a relief.

Now what to do about that?  Maybe use my lens cap...now I just know that time machine is around here SOMEWHERE.

Okay, so the bad news is that all I have is a major zoom lens.  Gaaah.  I'm going to Tim Gunn it for awhile I guess.

There is a pretty great story behind my new rug, and I'll share it with you next week.  Along with a complete breakdown of my family room and how everything else needs to change now. I kid-ish.  But for now, here's a little snippet.

I know that I make it extremely difficult to follow along sometimes, but I write the way I talk...so this is the point at which I take a sidebar to talk about that pillow that you're wondering about.  Why is that random purple pillow in the picture, Lauren?  I'm sure I've mentioned it here before, but one of my best life tips (really?  Life?) is to pick up clearance pillows at Home Goods.  You never know when you're going to want a new pillow cover, and if you buy down pillows when you see them ($6), you'll have inserts on hand.

Turns out, I actually kinda like the purply rust tones in the pillows.  And here's why.  Even though the rug as a whole (and it's a whole lotta rug...like 15' x 20') reads as bright navy and red, very traditional, when you get up close there are so many colors to pull from.

Purples, cornflower blues, pinks (!).  Guess what color isn't in the rug?  Orange.  Did you see my family room before?  Lots of orange.  Get ready to bring your ideas next week.

"I dumped out my raisins and they just disappeared into the new rug! Wow!"

Wow.
